In-depth: Merino Wool

Why Merino Wool?

Merino wool has been cherished since the 12th century for its fine fibers, measuring less than 25 microns compared to the 40 microns in regular wool. This finer wool feels smooth rather than itchy. Lundhags uses "superfine" 18.5-micron merino wool, which is durable, supple, and comfortable. It keeps you warm when it's cold and cool when it's hot, making it the perfect outdoor material.

Superfine Baselayer in 100% Merino Wool

Merino wool is an exceptional natural fiber, perfect for outdoor use due to its sustainability, biodegradability, and renewability. All Lundhags Merino wool is 100% mulesing-free.

Lundhags Merino Wool Collections

  • Ullto (300 g/m²): Thicker, ideal as an intermediate or outer layer in mild cold.
  • Gimmer Light (160 g/m²): Thinner and lighter, designed as a comfortable first layer.

Production and Quality

Lundhags' merino wool comes from certified farms in Australia, adhering to Oeko-Tex, Bluesign, and Woolmark standards. The wool is spun by Südwolle Group and Shepard in China, then crafted into garments designed by our Swedish team.

The Legacy of Merino Wool

Merino wool has been used for functional clothing since Viking times and has been a favorite of legendary fashion designers like Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. Today, it's used in various clothing brands for its blend of style and functionality. Lundhags uses merino wool to create versatile, stylish clothing for both urban and outdoor adventures, comfortable in all seasons and weather conditions.
