With a little extra effort, you can lift your tour food to new heights
For some, the food is the very reason they go on a trip. And good tour food, which makes the teeth run in water, clearly makes the road to the goal easier. Make the preparations ahead of time at home on the kitchen counter, so you avoid stressing during the break when time is short and hunger is great. Bring plenty so that you have both lunch and a snack, if you encounter any unforeseen delays.
The classic
A classic, to the delight of both young and old, are Viennese sausages in a thermos. Heat the water before you leave home and let the sausages soak in the hot water as you go. A regular thermos works fine.
With a bag (or box) of crispy fried onions, some potato salad and a couple of good sausage rolls, you elevate the meal that little bit extra easily and tasty. The onions can also be used for our next tip, the roast beef sandwich.
Roast beef sandwich
This is also a classic that many people recognize from most cold tables. Here we have replaced the usual remoulade with a rich and good béarnaise cream, which does not require much planning. With a sprinkling of crispy fried onions on top, just before you sink your teeth into the baguette, you have a wonderful crunchy lunch for the adults. Mmmmm!
You need
- 2 good slices of bread or a fresh baguette
- 5 slices of roast beef
- 150 grams of Philadelphia cheese
- 2 tablespoons béarnaise powder
- Crispy fried onions
This is what you do
Mix 150g of Philadelphia cheese with 2 tablespoons of béarnaise powder and let it steep in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
Put a hearty amount of roast beef slices on the bread slice or baguettes - you won't regret it. Season with salt and pepper and put on the second slice of bread and close the sandwich.
Wrap it up
It is also possible to prepare slightly less traditional dishes when you are going out into nature. Wraps are a good alternative, which many have become familiar with. And we dare say that almost everything can be wrapped. Use your imagination and create something tempting. How about, for example, a taco wrap?
Cut up vegetables and fry minced meat in advance, before rolling everything into tortilla chips, together with grated cheese and taco sauce. Make sure the wrap is well wrapped in aluminum foil to avoid surprises when you open the bag...
Food for longer trips
On longer trips over several days, you should think more varied, so that you don't have to eat the same thing every day. A good tip is to bring a good sausage. Then you have both a treat by the fire, some salt for lunch and toppings or accessories that you can use in other tour food.
A good lunch can be something as simple as cured sausage or dried meat together with babybel cheese and some biscuits.
But why not fill the bag with freshly baked cinnamon buns? It is a fully deserved luxury when the top is reached!
